How do you define a Forager? Someone who is passionate about keeping the “Local” aspect alive and well and who understands that buying “Local” has a positive impact on the local communities.
How did you start working at Whole Foods Market? I started as a night meat-cutter at our Northridge store. At the time it had not yet become a Whole Foods Market and was still a Mrs. Gooch’s store.
How long have you worked at Whole Foods? 22 years
What do you look for when you’re foraging for new products? I look for unique niche items as well as the mainstream items that people are used to seeing. The Niche items bring a sense of “Wow” for our customers who might know that this item is caught, raised, grown or produced right in their community.
What’s your favorite thing you’ve brought to Whole Foods Market? I have many, but since I have to choose, it would have to be the items from “The Santa Barbara Smokehouse.” The “Tradition Rope Hung Smoked Salmon” is the best I have ever tasted. It’s delicate in texture (almost melts in your mouth), light in smokiness, yet extremely satisfying to the taste buds. It will bring a moment of “Ahhh” each time you eat it!
